Study of Inverter System in MATRIX motor

Recently, PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) is widely used in terms of high efficiency and high torque density. In order to increase the penetration of PMSM, it is necessary to add further value like increasing torque, low noise and low vibration. In the previous research, A MATRIX motor has been proposed. The MATRIX motor can realize some advanced characteristics that increasing torque, expanding driving area, iron loss reduction, and so on. In this paper, we propose a novel inverter system of the MATRIX motor by using the multilevel inverter. The proposed system realizes decreasing the number of switching devices and multi-level of the output voltage. The cost of the inverter system in the MATRIX motor becomes lower by decreasing the number of switching devices. Meanwhile, a controllability of the MATRIX motor becomes high by the outputted multilevel voltage. Furthermore, the proposed system can maintain the voltage utilization ratio of the full bridge inverter. In this paper, it is confirmed that the proposed system can realize a winding changeover by the simulation and the experiment.
