Superposed transmission of high speed QPSK signals and SSMA-QPSK signals in non-linear channels

This paper proposes a superposed SSMA(Spread Spectrum Multiple Access)-QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) signal transmission over a high speed QPSK modulated signal to achieve higher transmission efficiency per transponder and to facilitate a lower power transmitter for SSMA signal transmission. The employment of highcoding-gain FEC (Forward Error Correction) and co-channe! interference cancellation for SSMA-QPSK signals makes it possible to transmit SSMA-QPSK signals over a nonlinearly amplified high speed QPSK signal transmission channel. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme is able to transmit twenty SSMA-QPSK channels and high speed QPSK signals over the same transponder simultaneously and realize a frequency utilization efficiency of 1.530bit/s/Hz (superposed transmission of 60Mbit/s QPSK signals and twenty 32kbit/s SSMA-QPSK signals over a 36MHz transponder) when SSMA-QPSK signal power to QPSK signal power ratio equals -30 dB.
