The surface nanostructuring of borosilicate glass was studied by femtosecond nJ energy pulses. Large area fabrication was achieved by implementing a confocal scheme for surface tracking using an additional continuous wave (cw)-laser beam. The ablation pattern achieved was consistent with that of a Coulomb explosion.
